We set off to investigate a grand plan Dara had devised to potentially avoid the horrendous park fees in Ngorogoro crater and Serengeti National Park. We had heard a rumour that it was possible to transit through the park on the main road without paying the full park fees – this would give us a both good chance of seeing some game and a nice route back to Nairobi. Unfortunately it was too good to be true.

Instead we headed down 40km on a bumpy old road to the rather lovely Lake Eyasi. Here we found a really lovely campsite, a big clearing in the a forest right on the edge of the lake, quiet as you like with nobody to be seen!

We set up camp, chilled out, collected some firewood and Dara cooked some dinner just as the sun set and the bush babies came out – magic!
