As we were wonderfully unplanned, again we didn’t know where we were heading when we set out on the road back from Lake Eyasi. One of my Christmas presents from my darling sister was a day in a game park during our safari. After checking prices and realising how the Tanzanians really screw you for owning a foreign registered vehicle we had decided to go to Amboseli park in Kenya on our way back to Nairobi. We set off to investigate a grand plan Dara had devised to potentially avoid theĀ horrendousĀ park fees in Ngorogoro crater and Serengeti National Park. We had heard a rumour that it was possible to transit through the park on the main road without paying the full park fees – this would give us a both good chance of seeing some game and a nice route back to Nairobi. We set off early (for too common a theme when camping – ugh) for the highly anticipated drive down the mountain from Mambo. The owners of Mambo had told us about a shortcut down to the main road, a very very steep track headed down from Mtae and then over a river where the bridge had collapsed. Hey Mambo, Mambo Italiano…

We woke to the most wonderful view in Mambo just as the sun was rising, the whole valley was covered with a blanket of low level clouds, it felt like we were in an airplane – watching the sun rise over the clouds was just superb. Read the rest of this entry »

Myself and Dara were gloriously unplanned for our trip to Tanzania so we woke up not having a plan for the day at all. We went for a short walk in the morning around Irente which turned out to be really nice.
